As a traditional Mailserver it fetches e-mails from the ISP and saves them in the local network to make you more independable from the ISP. It forwards mails to the ISP to be sent to their destinations. Mails that are sent between local users are delivered locally. So all e-mails can be backed up easily by the Mail Server at regular intervals.

As virusprotection and spamfilter are integrated, the Mail Server can be placed in front of an existing mail system to save the high licence costs of virus- and spam add-ons for traditional mail systems like Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notus or Novell Groupwise.
